Eclipse glasses ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ˜Ž On April 8, 2024 a full solar eclipse will be visible from Mazatlan, Mexico to Nova Scotia (see map).  These glasses are designed by me and handmade in Taxco, Mexico (where I have my shop) with Obsidian from the Teotihuacan pyramids that I acquired personally. I had them blessed for these glasses. I combined them with a handmade urchin design and a custom snake design both made from a material called tumbaga. Tumbaga was widely used by the pre-Columbian cultures of South and Central America to make religious objects. Tumbaga is an alloy composed mostly of gold and copper. The design is hollow inside so they are lighter because the obsidian has a heft to it.

They stay on your face with the weight of the Solid silver rattlers and the silver chain. They do have nose rests. The rattler I found in Blanco, TX many years ago and cast it in silver and I plated them in 24k gold and black rhodium. I tested these myself in October 2023 for the annular eclipse in Corpus Christi, TX. They were perfect!  In ancient times obsidian (natural glass) was a highly valuable trade commodity and used to view the eclipses! The picture shows what a bright sun looks like through it. Obsidian played a crucial role in the establishment of the Teotihuacan state. The early city leaders gained control over obsidian deposits in the area and organized work crews to acquire the raw material. Given its sharpness, the stone is considered to pierce into darkness to reveal the truth itself. The Mayan prophets used polished Obsidian as โ€œmirrorsโ€ for scrying purposes; their way of prophesizing the future. In ancient Mexican culture, Obsidian was called Itzli, which literally means the God of Stone. They will be limited editions with the date of the eclipse hand carved on the inside, they are stamped Taller Spratling and Cinnabar (my brand in conjunction with Heard Gallery). Each pair has a custom dust cover, cleaning cloth and custom walnut box.

Be in harmony with the ancient people of this earth in April and pre-order a pair!

The glasses will ship from Texas.
